Sheila’s Story
My adventure with Atabex Translations began in 2000 when I started here as an Administrative Assistant. I had always been interested in administrative work, yet I never imagined that my associate’s degree in Business Administration would lead me to work for a translation company, let alone becoming the head of its operations. After all, I didn’t even know such a thing existed! But without a doubt, working at Atabex has been an enriching learning experience from day one.
The company’s collaborative environment deepened my knowledge of languages (I personally like to refer to all that I have learned as my mini-master’s degree). Our company’s corporate spirit of eternal curiosity and in-depth research has gone hand in hand with my desire to always learn more and enhance my skills. As a result, I was able to earn a second associate’s degree in Computer Systems in 2001 and then a bachelor’s degree in Management in 2010 all while working here. In May 2016, I completed my master’s degree in Project Management from Universidad del Este.
My studies have allowed me to become an intrinsic part of the company’s growth, and I thoroughly enjoy my role as the head of operations. I’m proud to have been here for the last 16 years of the company’s 30-year history.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico’s public housing system, I am especially happy that Atabex has given me the opportunity to serve as an example for my 10-year-old daughter by showing her that you can progress and get ahead in life with effort, initiative, education, and dedication. Such is the legacy of Atabex.
In Sheila’s Own Words
What a lot of people do not know about me is that I have always loved to dance. When I was younger I was part of a dance troupe that danced at events such as the Fourth of July parade and even at my brother’s sixth-grade graduation.
Roslyn and I have created the company tradition of singing and dancing to everyone’s birthday or special occasion, from birthdays to births, we celebrate it any and everything.
